I’m not a bloggy person but I do want to post and write stuff here so here I am writing my very first blog. It’s about my photography and my being a nurse.
So I photograph things with my camera and with my mind.
I’m also a nurse and work in ER which means every shift is a critical, who-knows-what-will-happen situation. I constantly assess people, look after and care for them and project their outcomes. I work with the best nursing team in town, sadly most of them left (and more are leaving) for greener pastures. I take the nurse in me at all times too, even outside work. But how do I escape? I mean really, because no one likes to take their work home with them. I think I won’t be able to.
Back to the beginning of my second paragraph. I photograph things with my camera and with my mind. I guess I love to preserve memories and remember the emotions and experiences associated with them. That’s why I carry my camera with me at all times. Even at work.
I think I use my camera to escape the healthcare world. Don’t get me wrong, I love being a nurse, but everyone needs an escape now and then and this is mine. As a nurse, my days are filled with long hours and high-pressure situations. But when I escape to my passion for photography, everything else seems to fade away, I feel nothing but focused, and the rest of the world doesn’t matter. All that I’m concerned with is the scene in front of me. If that scene is a beautiful landscape, I feel peaceful. If it’s a happy couple, I feel so much joy it’s indescribable. One scene can make one person warm inside, but bring another to tears.
Nursing EXCITES me, but photography… it CALMS me, it makes me stop and smell the roses.
If you're feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, I encourage you to find your own escape. Whether it's through photography or another hobby, taking time for yourself is essential for staying grounded and centred in the midst of life's challenges.
Peace and sorry for the long read. I hope everyone is having a day.
